It was 3 inspired by a mum, whose daughter was regularly admitted to hospital, who said she could tell what kind of care her daughter would get within '15 steps' of walking on to a ward.

We have heard that it is getting harder to find a GP practice that will offer earwax removal, and that patients with earwax problems are increasingly having to turn to the private sector to access treatment.

Between April 2024 and March 2025, Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire (HWCB) and Healthwatch Milton Keynes (HWMK) conducted a mapping exercise of GP Practices across their regions to assess the status and effectiveness of PPGs. Of the 24 GP Practices in Central Bedfordshire, 20 had active PPGs, while Milton Keynes had 31 GP Practices, 20 of which were active at time of report. To support GP Practices in developing inclusive and active PPGs, HWCB and HWMK collaborated on a self-assessment tool, surveys, and a draft PPG toolkit. These resources were co-produced with input from patients, healthcare stakeholders, and community organisations through meetings, direct emails, and social media engagement.

Can trauma cards help people access healthcare

Details:

There are millions of people in England currently experiencing trauma, and millions more who have previously experienced it. For many, experience of trauma can act as a barrier to seeking health and care services. In 2022, Healthwatch Essex piloted trauma cards - wallet-sized cards that a person with trauma can give to a healthcare professional. The cards explain that the holder has experience of trauma, and link to further resources to help provide sensitive, appropriate care. The pilot was hugely successful, showing how a simple intervention can make it easier for people who have been through trauma to get the care they need. In October 2024, Healthwatch England commissioned YouGov to run a nationally representative poll of people from England to understand how trauma cards might benefit people more widely
