This report finds that the UK's performance on hospital-based care is consistently near the bottom in a public survey of 10 high income countries. The analysis of the 2023 Commonwealth Fund survey highlights key areas where the UK performs poorly, particularly on long waits for specialist care, lack of access to out-of-hours care and affordability for treatments like dental care. For hospital care, the UK had among the longest waiting times compared to the other countries in the survey, with 11% of people waiting a year or more for a specialist appointment and 19% waiting a year or more for non-emergency surgery.

Coproduced research is at risk of becoming, and has perhaps already become, a 'mere buzzword', separated from its social and academic value. We argue this is connected to two things: the structuring of contemporary, particularly Global Northern, academia, and the traditional, dichotomous, and false intellectual separation of rationality from emotionality. Our modest attempt to tackle these problems come in the form of an extended critical discussion of coproduction and a social theoretical account of the emotions. These sections provide something of a 'ground clearing', based upon which, we illustrate our thesis with two personal accounts about how we came to value coproduction as a fundamentally moral and ethical way to approach our research. We conclude by appealing to colleagues to join us in attempting to undermine the empty and tokenistic use of coproduction by openly and honestly discussing the axiological and emotional foundations from which they work.

The department of health and social care developed a Women's Health Strategy in August 2022 highlighting several specific issues which impact women in the UK. Women generally live longer than men but spend a significantly greater proportion of their lives in ill health +/or disability when compared with men. Little focus is placed on women-specific issues like miscarriage and menopause and women are under-represented in clinical trials. Men were often used as the default choice in research and clinic trials, this has led to gaps in insight and data. Healthwatch Bury have engaged with local women to find out more about their experiences of health and care services during their adolescent, reproductive and post reproductive years in order to understand and improve local services.
