What are Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs)? CDCs are places where people can go for planned (elective) diagnostic care. Patients are typically referred to a CDC by a GP or specialist for a scheduled test or scan. Before CDCs were established, most of these tests were performed in acute hospital settings - the same place where people needing emergency tests would go. Now, people can go to standalone CDCs, including those based in community locations like shopping centres; health centres, where CDCs are based alongside GPs and pharmacies; community hospitals; and mobile scanning units for planned diagnostic care

The UK economy depends on businesses and employers retaining their skilled and knowledgeable staff, and this increasingly includes the millions of employees who also provide unpaid care to family members and friends ('working carers'). A lack of support and understanding about the pressures working carers face means that many people are currently struggling to balance their responsibilities, with adverse consequences for their health and wellbeing, and their ability to remain in paid work. Society needs to adapt and change in order to support our growing and changing population of working carers, and to realise the benefits of doing so. While Carers UK strongly supported and welcomed the passage of both the Carer's Leave Act 2023 and the Employment Relations (Flexible Working) Act 2023 during the last parliament, the UK still lags behind other countries in terms of workplace rights for carers. As a result, Carers UK wants to see the UK go further and to realise our vision for all working carers to have a statutory right to two weeks of paid Carer's Leave a year, accompanied by a longer period of up to six months of unpaid leave.

We conducted a Hot Topic survey into the National Health Service (NHS) complaints handling process. This was based on increasing feedback we were receiving, expressing dissatisfaction, from the people using NHS complaints services in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. A robust, accessible and transparent complaints process is essential for ensuring patient voices are heard and for continuously improving the quality of services. This aligns with our objectives as the champion for local health and care service users

Interpreting services in GP practices in North Central London are delivered through three providers: LanguageLine (spoken languages and British Sign Language), London Borough of Islington (British Sign Language for Islington residents), and the Royal Association for the Deaf (British Sign Language for Camden residents). The Integrated Care Board is responsible for reducing health inequalities and ensuring health care services are provided equitably. They commission these interpreting services and are reviewing what's provided. They asked Healthwatch Islington to gather the views of people across North Central London (Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, and Islington) with language needs (signed or spoken) regarding their experience of interpreting services at their GP surgery. These views and experiences will help inform the commissioning of the new contract for interpreting services and will help shape the future of interpreting services for GP practices across North Central London.
